The SCC Baseball team will host Gateway CC in the Region Championship series starting Thursday, May 10th at 3:00 PM. Friday’s game is set for 3:00 PM at SCC. If needed, the game on Saturday will be at 12:00 PM, noon. Good luck to coach Alex Cherney and the Fighting Artichoke Baseball team as they try to capture the region championship! Please come out, wear green and cheer on the team to the championship!
5/4/12
The SCC Baseball team completed their series win against Chandler-Gilbert 6-5 on Friday afternoon at SCC stadium. Devin Turner knocked in the winning run in the bottom of the ninth to secure the 6-5 win. The Artichokes did not have a lead in the game until Turner’s hit. Chandler-Gilbert jumped out 4-0 in the 3rd inning, one that saw 8 batters come to the plate for the Coyotes. SCC battled back in the bottom of the eighth inning to tie the game a 5 before winning in the bottom of the ninth.
The team will now wait for the winner of the Mesa CC/Gateway CC series to determine their next opponent in the region playoffs. That series will begin on Thursday afternoon.

The SCC Baseball team needed a big outing from their big right-hander and they got it on Thursday afternoon. Richie Navari threw a gem as the Artichokes took the first game of their weekend series with Chandler-Gilbert 5-2. Navari had allowed only 2 hits and one run through 5 innings and worked out of a jam in the 6th inning to propel the team to victory.
The two teams are back at it this afternoon at 3:00 PM at SCC stadium. Come out, wear green, get loud and cheer the team onto the next round of the region playoffs!!
4/30/12
The SCC Baseball finished the regular season by earning a split with Mesa CC over the weekend. The team scored a run in the 9th inning on Friday to earn a 4-3 victory at home, only to see their chances of a share of the ACCAC crown dwindle with a 12-2 loss on Saturday.
The team will host region play on Thursday when they square off against Chandler-Gilbert. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.

The SCC Baseball team lost another close game on Wednesday, dropping an 8-6 decision to visiting Gateway CC.

The SCC Baseball team lost a tough game in 10 innings 5-4 to Gateway CC on Tuesday afternoon. The two teams will square off again on Wednesday at 3:00 PM at SCC.

The SCC Baseball is rolling at the right time, this time earning a sweep over rival Paradise Valley CC. The team won a tight one-run game on Friday 4-3. They came back on Saturday and won another tight game, earning a 5-3 decision over the Pumas.

The Artichoke Baseball team scored one run in the first inning to complete their previously suspended game with Phoenix College 4-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The team then came out and won a 9-3 decision in their first of a two series with the Bears.
Both teams will be back at it today when they face off at Phoenix College. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.

The Artichoke Baseball team earned a split versus Glendale CC over the weekend. After opening the series with a convincing 6-1 win on Friday, the team could not close out the Gauchos on Saturday, losing the game 9-5.

The SCC Baseball team dropped both games of their double-header at Cochise College on Tuesday. The team dropped the first game 4-1 and the second game 6-2.
The Artichokes will try to rebound when they play at Glendale CC on Friday at 3:00 PM. The second game of the series will be at home Saturday at 12:00 PM.

The SCC Baseball team got back in the groove, sweeping Chandler-Gilbert CC over the weekend. After winning the opener 13-4on Friday afternoon, the team stayed hot and posted an 8-4 win on Saturday.

The SCC Baseball team dropped the second game of their two-game series with South Mountain CC 5-1 on Wednesday afternoon. The Artichokes were leading 1-0 before South Mountain exploded for 5 runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure the win and the series sweep.
4/3/12
After sitting out for two games, the SCC Baseball team was ready to get back to the field against South Mountain CC on Tuesday afternoon. The Chokes came up short 15-12 in a game that featured wild momentum swings. After trailing 9-3, the team came back to ties the game, only to see it slip away late.
The two teams will be back in action today when they square off at SMCC. First pitch is set for 3:00 PM.

The SCC Baseball team found their groove in their make-up game with Yavapai College on Thursday afternoon. After falling behind 6-0 early, the team and their bats woke up. Chris Sabanosh capped a remarkable rally with a two-run bomb to give the Artichokes a 9-8 lead int he 9th inning. the team tacked on an insurance run then held the Roughriders in check to post a big 10-8 win.

The SCC Baseball team snapped a brief losing streak by earning a split against Pima Community College on Tuesday afternoon. After dropping the first game 4-2, the Artichoke bats came alive, posting 6 runs on their way to the 6-1 win.
The Chokes will be back in action on Saturday when they travel to Yuma for a double-header against the Matadors of Arizona Western. First pitch is set for 12:00pm noon.

The SCC Baseball team dropped both games of a double-header at Eastern Arizona college on Saturday afternoon. The team dropped the opener 2-0, then battled in the second game but came up short 4-3.
The team will be back home Tuesday when they take on Pima Community College in a key double-header match-up. First pitch is set for 12:00 PM.

The SCC Baseball team lost a tough game to Yavapai College 6-3 on Tuesday afternoon. The two teams were set to play again today in Prescott but the game has been rescheduled due to snow. The game in Prescott will be Thursday, March 29th at 2:30pm.
3/17/12
The SCC Baseball team finished a frenzied weekend of play by defeating 3 out-of-state teams on Friday and Saturday afternoons. They first won a pitcher’s duel by beating Western Nebraska 1-0. They followed up by losing a tough game to Indian Hills CC 9-8. The Chokes then recovered to beat Monroe 8-5 on Saturday and then capped off the weekend by avenging Friday’s loss to Indian Hills CC by beating them handily 7-2. The wins push the team record on the season to a solid 22 wins and 9 losses.
3/14/12
The SCC Baseball team returned to the win column on Wednesday afternoon, sweeping a two games series against a pair of out-of-state teams. The Chokes won the opener against El Paso 6-1 with a strong offensive performance int he middle innings. The team then came back in the second game against Colorado State Club and posted a solid win 3-1.
The team will be back in action on Thursday when they host Western Nebraska at 11:00 AM. The second game of the double-header will be against Indian Hills at 3:00 PM.

The SCC Baseball lost both games of their two game series over the weekend to Mesa CC.

Sebastian Kessay threw 7 shutout innings in helping the Artichokes to complete the sweep of Gateway 2-0 on Wednesday afternoon. Kessay allowed only 3 hits while striking out 4 in the game.
The team will be back in action on Friday when they open a two-game series against Mesa CC. Friday’s game is on the road at 3:00 PM. The Chokes will be at home Saturday at noon to complete the two-game series.

The SCC Baseball team won the first game in a two-game series against Gateway CC 8-4 on Tuesday afternoon. They will try to complete the sweep today at 3:00 PM when they travel to Gateway CC.
3/2/12
The SCC Baseball completed their two game sweep of Paradise Valley CC on Saturday afternoon with a 4-3 win. After winning the first game 7-1 at home on Friday, the Chokes traveled to PVCC for a Saturday afternoon tilt. The Chokes jumped out to an early 1-0 lead, only to see PVCC tie the game in 5th inning. PVCC then added 2 runs late to make it 3-1 going into the top of the ninth. The team then scored 3 in the top half of the frame and closed the deal to complete the sweep.

The SCC Baseball team continues to rack up wins, this time by beating the Bears of Phoenix College 5-2. The two teams will be back in action today when the Artichokes welcome in the Bears. First pitch is set for 3 PM.
2/24/12
The SCC Baseball team improved to 12-5 with an 8-2 win over visiting Glendale CC on Friday afternoon. The team jumped to an early 6-0 lead and cruised to take home the win.
Both teams will meet up again, with the Chokes visiting the Gauchos at GCC on Saturday. First pitch has been moved to 2 PM.
2/21/12
The SCC Men’s Baseball team rallied in the bottom of the eighth inning today to earn a split with the #1 ranked team in nation 3-2. After dropping the first game of the series yesterday 7-2 at Central Arizona College, the Chokes battled back from a 2-0 deficit with 3 runs in the eighth inning today to earn the 3-2 win and series split.
The team is now 11-5 on the young season.

The SCC Baseball team lost both games of their double-header at AWC, dropping the first game 6-0 and the second game 8-4.
The team will be at Chandler-Gilbert on Friday at 3:00PM for the first of a home-and-home series with the Coyotes. Saturday’s game at SCC will be at 12 noon.
2/11/12
Colton Thomson threw a complete game, 2 hit shutout over AWC on Saturday afternoon to propel the Chokes to a 2-0 win in the first game of their two game tilt. Thomson struck out five and walked none in his gem. The Artichokes came back and completed the two-game sweep by winning 5-4 in the second game.
The two teams will meet again on Tuesday when the Artichokes travel to Yuma for a rematch with the Matadors.

The SCC Baseball team dropped both games today in Las Vegas, 11-9 and 11-3. The team finished the trip 2-2.
The SCC Baseball rolled to yet another win, this time defeating CSI 5-4. The teams will meet again on Saturday at noon in Las Vegas.

The SCC Baseball team continued their hot start to the 2012 season, winning the opening game of their Las Vegas series 4-1 over Eastern Utah. The win moves the team to 5-0 on the young season.
The team will play again today at 10:00 AM, when they open a two-game series against CSI.

The SCC Baseball team made it 4-0 on the young season by sweeping their four game series at El Paso College. The team concluded their sweep with a win on Sunday.
The team will leave Thursday for a weekend series in Las Vegas.

The SCC Baseball team opened their season with a 7-3 win on Friday afternoon in the first of their three game series with El Paso College. The team scored 4 runs in the 8th inning to break open the game.
The team will be back in action tomorrow for the second game of the three game series. First pitch is set for noon.

The SCC Athletic Department and Head Coach Alex Cherney announced today that two SCC Baseball players were selected in the 2011 Major League Baseball Draft. Sophomore Scott Zuloaga, a left handed pitcher from Saguaro High School, was selected by the Houston Astros in the 16th Round. Lance Harper, a catcher from Desert Mountain High School, was selected by the Kansas City Royals in the 23rd round.
